Bone marrow Aspiration
A doctor will clean your skin then applies local anesthetic around the hip area. A small amount of bone marrow fluid from your hip bone is extracted using a very small needle. A tube is attached to the needle where the bone marrow fluid can flow.
The procedure takes about 20 minutes. It is only slightly painful, you may feel pressure or sucking sensation at the puncture area. You will be able to return to your hospital room immediately after the procedure. Soreness usually lasts for 1-2 days.
The sample is taken to our Stem Cell Resource Laboratory where a specialist will process the bone marrow fluid.
Possible risks of bone marrow aspiration
The occurrence of bleeding or infection is possible, but very rare. These risks are minimized by the excellent care offered by our team of doctors and medical staff, as our state-of-the-art medical technology, and our hospital’s strict adherence to hygiene regulations.
Bone marrow transplant
NB: The treatment plan for patients receiving autologous bone marrow stem cells comprises three phases. The duration of therapy can be assessed based on the following phases:
Phase I: Initial check-up and bone marrow extraction (2–3 days).
Phase II: Laboratory work (20–30 days). The sample is tested, purified and cultured. Your attendance at the hospital is not required. You may leave Beijing or extend your stay during this period.
Phase III: Transplantation (20 days).
