The Stem Cell Department was co-founded in 2003 by Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Beijing Neurological Institute and the Wujing General Hospital of Chinese People’s Armed Police Forces under the leadership of Dr. Wang Zhongcheng, who served as the Chairman of the Committee of Neurosurgeons of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

The department is one of the first in the world to focus on clinical use of stem cells aiming on stem cell research, subsequent treatment and rehabilitation. We have been advancing our protocols by developing novel, innovative procedures to bring maximal benefit to you.

As of July 2010 2,125 patients have been treated with stem cell treatment have benefited from improved quality of life. The effectiveness rate has been observed from 69.2% to 82.4 % depending on the type of disease.

Medical Breakthroughs

We are proud to have introduced leading edge CT guided intraspinal transplantation used for spinal cord injuries, which has proved to be a major breakthrough in the treatment of spinal cord injury worldwide.

Emphasis on Quality & Safety

We put the highest priority on safety and effectiveness of our stem cell treatments. Therefore we apply standard Western medical workflow: basic research, applied research, non-human primate acquired and clinical trials. As a result we have acquired a deep understanding of the mechanism of stem cells and their therapeutic values.

Highly Qualified and Conscientious Medical Team

We are proud to have a highly dedicated medical team with 7 neurosurgeons, 7 neurologists including 5 with PhDs and 21 nurses. Beijing Tiantan Hospital, which is a World Health Organization (WHO) training center for neurosurgery consigns medical students to complete their internship at our department.
